Mearns Quail Hunting in the San Rafael Valley of Arizona
In a recent Mearns quail hunt, I finally got a chance to use my new digital camera. The pictures below were the results of my first attempts. It was a lot of fun just taking the pictures for a change and letting everyone else miss the birds.

One
of the many 'golden valleys' of the San Rafael Valley.

The
picture on the left shows us trying to figure out
where exactly 'Wild Willie" is on point.
On the right is Arizona Game & Fish Commissioner Hays Gilstrap and AzQA co-founder Dr. Tad Pfister.
Have
you ever noticed that as we all get older the lunch
breaks become longer and more enjoyable?
On
the left is "Wild Willie" that even at 10
years old he has yet to slow down. The middle picture
shows John Wright moving in between my two English
Setters "Frankie" and "Wild Willie"
(the latter barely showing) on point. The picture
on the right captures the smile when John got his
very first Mearns quail.

If you enjoy seeing hunting pictures, you can see more pictures of a Kansas Hunt we also took this year. As of the middle of January, Mearns quail hunting wasn't much fun this season because we felt they needed a break, so we stopped hunting them altogether. So off to Kansas and Oklahoma we went and it was a welcomed change of pace.
